Some Common Types of Roof Repairs

Do you give your roof much thought? Probably not on a regular basis. But if and when you do, you are grateful for the protection and security it provides. It’s important to be proactive and keep it maintained so when a repair is needed, hopefully it can be resolved quickly and at a reasonable price. These minor repairs will help maintain the integrity of your roof and decrease the need for major repairs.

Typical Roof Problems

These are examples of roof issues that can and do occur, but if caught early, will not be a burden on the roof itself or your wallet:

Leaks: There are a variety of reasons that can make a roof leak. Over time, weather conditions could cause the roofing material to get brittle and break. It could be due to excess moisture accumulating from a gutter leaking onto the roof. Debris may be trapping water which then leaks into the roof itself.

Missing Shingles: After a strong storm with lots of wind, it’s important to inspect the roof for signs of missing shingles. Not only can missing shingles be an eyesore, they are an important part of the roof and provide a layer of protection.

Rusty Metal: Metal roofs are very robust and resilient. Although most metal roofs have waterproof sealants—these can wear down over time. Standing water is a common issue with these roofs and this is when rust begins to form.

Flashing:  Flashing seals areas of the roof where there is a change, such as where the roof joins a dormer or a chimney. If flashing is improperly installed it could slip out of place and expose seams. This could lead to leaks in the roof.
